GetSetup's Co-Founder on KTVU Fox 2

GetSetup Co-Founder Lawrence Kosick was interviewed by Frank Mallicoat from KTVU Fox 2 to talk about how GetSetup is offering 50+ adult learners free classes on critical tech skills for COVID-19 life.

Lawrence, a start-up veteran in Silicon Valley focused on enterprise technology, joined with Neil Dsouza, an education technology entrepreneur, to create GetSetup. The two wanted to build a company that would create economic opportunities for the growing 50+ demographic while at the same time solving a big need of continuous learning and digital adoption.

GetSetup provides live interactive training on online tools and apps for the 50+ and Senior demographic. Many 50+ adult learners are often less tech-savvy than younger members of the population and are especially vulnerable to being disconnected. GetSetup offers “re-skilled” retired educators as Guides to train their peers in online tools and other classes to help them feel more independent and up-to-date.

Classes are taught as overviews, small groups, or one-to-one classes so that students learn at their own pace in a supportive environment. These classes help to ensure users understand interfaces, apps, and technologies to ensure confidence, ease of use, and independence.

"6 months ago when we started, we were helping individuals learn products like Shopify to start a online store, Etsy , SquareSpace to make a website and several other small business focused software applications. There was a huge need to provide white-glove on-boarding for the 50+ customers of these companies that were often neglected or sent to Youtube to watch some recorded videos" says Lawrence.

When the coronavirus hit and social distancing measures took effect the GetSetup team knew that their demographic would be drastically affected and in many cases left without the resources to connect to loved ones and managed daily tasks that they had formerly done outside their homes. Thus the GetSetup community rallied in social service to offer over 40+ classes for free to help ensure that seniors had the skills they needed to navigate this global crisis, with crucial skills to help maintain their emotional and physical well-being by being able to connect and continue with essential services from their homes.
