“Cancer” is the bane of our existence and rightfully so, it is the second most common reason for death in India.
Did you know there are over 100 diseases that classify as cancer and according to World Health Organization at least one-third of all cancer cases are preventable!
Over the course of this month, we will be tackling one cancerous devil at a time.
For this session, we have Ms. Satinder Kaur and Ms. Alka Sheel, who will be explaining the role some of our lifestyle decisions play in making us more prone to developing cancer. Such Lifestyle factors have been identified as causes of cancer and cancer mortality. Eliminating them, making better decisions for one’s well-being is often considered as the first step in prevention.
Alka Sheel is a breast cancer survivor and has been associated with the Indian Cancer Society for the last decade as a volunteer. She works with the Jagriti and Sahyog wings of the Indian Cancer Society. She has given numerous awareness talks on cancer awareness and prevention and is also a hospital volunteer providing support to cancer patients at AIIMS. She holds a master's degree in Physics and is a former senior secondary physics teacher. She is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher. She is passionate about dance and music and currently learns line dance.
